You may have woken to see lots of people tweeting without an avatar this morning — maybe even you yourself have lost your Twitter profile photo which has been replaced by Twitter’s default egg…

If that is the case, don’t worry, it can all be explained.
Twitter suffered issues with its profiles during Tuesday evening (US time), as TechCrunch reported, the result of which was that some users lost their photos and were switched to the default egg. Indeed, the issue was different on some apps, meaning that people like my colleague Josh may have been ‘egged’ via the iPhone app but not via TweetDeck or Twitter.com, for example.

Twitter fixed the problem a while back — as below — but a caching issue means some users are still being affected. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has even stepped in to assure some users that all is fine and it was down to a “bad deploy” – that’s truly a message from the top.
